A lot has happened since we finished shooting in Trollhättan back in May 2011. Our five friends have gone Into The White. Our Director Petter Næss has gone into the editing suite and back out again. The film has been sold to 22 territories and the grand world premiere at Filmfest Oslo 4/3 2012 is getting closer by the minute!

The editing, which was done by Frida Eggum Michaelsen in Bergen, Norway, went really well. With a recipe that includes equal parts drama, absurdity and humour movie magic was made. Snow and wind machines cut out and our heroes now travel back and forth between a fridge in Trollhättan and a mountain top in Grotli faster than you can say “Heinkel 111”. After an intense editing period both Petter and Frida are happy with the result. Or as Petter puts it “Jeg har fått laget den filmen jeg vil”, (I’ve made the film I wanted to make).

Another big part of any film is the audio and Into The White is no exception. The wind and the weather in this film is a character in it self and Petter has used the sound of this to enhance the intensity and mood of the different scenes. Also “the cabin has its sounds, and so does the men” and Petter has tried to make the most of them all. The score is composed by Nils Petter Molvaer and my reports from the fort has it that the final touches has been made and that it sounds really good. All the parts are slowly falling into place. After the test screening of the trailer in the premiere cinema we used the norwegian adjective “Superfett” (≈Super Awesome) and we hope that will be your opinion as well once you get to see the film.

“The reason I joined the film was first of all the director, Petter Naess! Fantastic director! Second reason was the opportunity to play a German Pilot! Third, it’s a good story!”
-Actor Stig Henrik Hoff

It’s all about trying to maintain the enmity, trying not to become friends.
- Director Petter Naess
If you meet someone like him, as an actor, even more so if you have to play him, you ask unprejudiced without any judgement. You don’t confront someone with conceptions you could get in retrospect. It is good to imagine “I am in 1940” and you forget the whole mess of the years after. You are just a soldier. It was great to meet him.

Comrades INTO THE WHITE
From now on, although we’re all comrades, the film previously called Comrade will now be known as INTO THE WHITE. Or as our dear director, Petter Næss would say…
Comrade was a good title on a really exciting and unbeleivable story from WWII. However, during post production we have reached the conclusion that INTO THE WHITE is a better title for this film. It sounds good and is a more precise title considering the story and theme of this film: High above the harsh Norwegian wilderness English and German pilots shoot each other to the ground. There they encounter a landscape that is both white and unknown.
